Ignorant Predictions: Season Opener - Bills vs Rams

Could we be getting a much more anticipated opener than Bills vs Rams? The heir apparent vs the defending champs should be highly entertaining as the classic high-powered offence vs the daunting defence. I am looking forward to seeing this star-studded affair, which is an awesome way to start the 2022 NFL Regular Season.

Ignorant Questions:

Will Josh Allen find yet another gear in his game?

The Rams will be focused on making Allen play the “hero-ball” game that often leads to highlight plays, and bone-head turnovers. The key may be the run game, and how new OC Ken Dorsey decides to mix things up. I see Allen struggling to stretch plays as the Rams team defence closes quickly and effectively, but still connecting on big plays to Gabe Davis and new scat back James Cook.

Is Matt Stafford’s elbow OK?

Rams fans are collectively holding their breaths to see if their franchise QB can throw the ball as electrically as he did during the playoffs. No one doubts his toughness, but will his arm strength be there? Look at Sean McVay to heavily feature the run game, and look at the short-intermediate game to easy Stafford in.

Is Aaron Donald going to swing helmets (literally or figuratively) on the Bills?

Donald, who just got paid big bucks by the Rams, and deservedly so, made headlines in a helmet swinging incident a-la Rudolph and Garrett a few years back. Donald, who was “disciplined” by the Rams for his part in the practice bash-up, will be looking to make his mark in the game by blowing up the less than stellar interior O Line of the Bills. I see him having an impact, but also can see Allen escaping the pressure to make some great on-the-run plays.

Who wins the matchup: Jalen Ramsey or Stefon Diggs?

Without a doubt, Jalen will be shadowing Stefon all night, but who will wins the matchup between the premiere corner in the league and a perennially all-pro receiver? I think if Ramsey is healthy, he will be able to shutdown Diggs, but may need to be shifted off to the slot to help guard Allen when he uses his legs to make something happen. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a quiet night for Diggs as a decoy that frees up the other weapons for the Bills.

My verdict:

Bills take it after pulling away late with a 27 – 17 victory on the road.

Let me know what you think! Ignorant or nah?
